Cast Iron Butterfly Valves

The Youyi butterfly valve is a compact angle travel valve. The main body is elastomer lined to provide a resilient bubble seal closure. The valves are supplied in either a butt or lug type and can be operated by lever or gearbox.
The lining is either EPDM or Buna N, depending on the intended service conditions. Primarily recommended for switching services, they can also be used for non-critical throttling applications. A quarter turn is all that is required to fully open or close the valve.

Cast iron butterfly valves, commonly known as grey cast iron butterfly valves, are made from an alloy containing iron and 2-4% carbon and may contain traces of other impurities such as sulphur or phosphorus. Cast iron butterfly valves are an inexpensive option for non-critical applications.
Cast iron butterfly valves are not new. Cast iron has been around for centuries and it is considered a very durable butterfly valve material. It has excellent damping properties, which means that when strong vibrations disturb a cast iron butterfly valve, it is unlikely to suffer any damage. However, cast iron butterfly valves are less ductile.
Marine butterfly valves are often impractical as the pipes and valves tend to bend slightly as the ship moves over water, which can lead to iron cracking. In fact, any bending of the material of these butterfly valves can cause them to rupture.
These types of cast iron butterfly valves are most commonly used in applications where a large volume of flow is required as well as a quick, tight shut-off. Some applications include domestic hot and cold water, HVAC, condensers and chilled water. These applications are often found in commercial or light industrial utilities.

Butterfly valves are an ideal type of actuated valve as they have a small range of motion from open to closed of only 90 degrees. They can be actuated anywhere within this range, allowing precise control by manual and electric operation.
