Cast steel butterfly valve has high and low temperature strength and excellent fatigue strength characteristics. Carbon steel butterfly valves can withstand temperatures up to 450ºC.

Carbon steel butterfly valves are lower cost than stainless steel butterfly valves and have good mechanical strength for general applications without special requirements.

Carbon steel butterfly valves have limited corrosion resistance and must be considered in the design (thickness calculation).
